Wine and bar- how it works

Buying Off-sales from us at pre-order prices

This a no-frills, discounted operation and only possible when we organise our own imports and are paid up front.  Please, therefore don't order cautiously and expect to top up on the night at the same price - we order in enough for forthcoming events plus a small safety margin.  If we need extra stock quickly we have to buy from other UK importers which means higher prices.  So:

  • Wine must be ordered at least 4 weeks in advance.  We suggest these quantities:

Champagne: 0.6 bottle per person for the reception (0.4 bot) and toasts (0.2 bot.)

Wine: 0.6-1.0 bottles per person to end of the meal split 60/40 red to white)

plus, if you are not having a licensed bar:

Wine: 0.2 bottles per person for the rest of the evening, split 75/25 white to red

  • In the case of an over-order, any unopened bottles will be refunded
  • In the case of an under-order, we will provide more if we can at Off-sale prices but this will be subject to stock levels at the time and up-coming pre-orders.
  • If you are providing the drink for your guests after the meal as well (in other wods if you're not having a licensed cash bar in the evening), then the wine purchased can be requested from the bar staff until the party closes or the above limits are reached.
  • If you have asked us to operate a licensed bar (see below), then no more Off-sales wine will be available from the bar after the toasts are poured at the end of the meal.

Organising a licensed bar

A licensed bar can be provided, but to be viable it must be the only source of drink for a significant period, so must be operated on the following understanding:

  • If you have bought our Off-sales wine, once the toasts are poured at the end of the meal, no more Off-sales will be available to you, although the left-overs will be left on the tables for guests to drink
  • If you have brought your own wine, then the left-overs will be collected from the tables when the bar opens at the end of the meal.  Bar staff will explain to guests that you have asked them to remove the wine for the licensed bar to open.   The left-overs will be consolidated into full bottles, re-corked and left for your collection at the end of the party
  • If you have brought your own drink then we ask you to underwrite a spend of £5 per person to ensure the viability of the licensed bar.
  • The bar will close at 0100 hrs
